Lady Ramsden Portrait

Lady Ramsden was the wife of James Ramsden, the first mayor of
Barrow. Her portrait was painted around 1868 and could
be seen alongside that of her husband on the wall
of the Council Chamber in the Town Hall. Unfortunately
the oil painting has had some water damage and was taken down to
receive conservation work. As the painting was hung very
high and is heavy, local firm Steeles were used to safely remove it
from the wall, as shown in the photographs above.
The portrait has now been treated by conservators and is
hanging again in the Council Chamber.
