Painting, oil on canvas, "Edward Wadham Esq, Mayor 1878-1881" by Henry Thomas Schäfer. Presented by the inhabitants of Barrow in commemoration of the services he rendered to the town during his three years of office. Edward Wadham was the Duke of Buccleuch's agent in Barrow and was a Conservative Councillor. He was also a director of the Barrow Steam Corn Mill. Part of the Town Hall collection. Henry Thomas Schäfer was a British artist, born in 1854 in London. He was a painter and restorer of paintings. In about 1917 he changed his name to Henry Thomas Dover (presumably as a result of anti-German feeling during the First World War) and died in 1922.
