Barrow Town Hall

Queen Victoria gave permission for Barrow to run its own affairs in 1867. Barrow by then had grown from a small village to a large town of approximately 15,000. Building work for Barrow's purpose-built Town Hall started in 1882 from locally quarried sandstone. But when cracks appeared in tower this section had to be dismantled and rebuilt. Barrow's Town Hall was formally opened on 14th July 1887 as part of the celebrations of Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee. It is still used today as the Council's political and administrative hub.
